Pune Rape Accused, Who Is On The Run, Posed As Cop For Months: Sources

Dattatraya Ramdas Gade, the Pune rape accused who is on the run, posed as a policeman for several months, sources have told NDTV. Rs 1 lakh will be given to the person providing information about his whereabouts, Pune Police Commissioner has announced.

A 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped inside a state transport bus at the Swargate bus station, which is one of the largest bus depots of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), in Pune on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old accused, a resident of Gunat village in Pune, is named in half a dozen cases of theft, robbery and chain-snatching in Pune and Ahilyanagar district. He has been out on bail since 2019 in one of the offences.

Sources say the Swargate bus stop was the accused's usual haunt. He was, say sources, often spotted around there in a shirt, sports shoes and a mask. He would tell people around the bus stand that he was a policeman, the sources added.

According to the survivor, she was waiting for a bus for Phaltan in Satara district at one of the platforms around 5.45 am on Tuesday, when the accused engaged her in conversation, calling her 'didi' (sister), and said the bus for Satara had arrived at another platform.

He took her to an empty 'Shiv Shahi' AC bus parked elsewhere on the premises. As the lights inside the bus were not on, she hesitated to get in but the man convinced her that it was the right vehicle. The accused then followed her and raped her, the woman, who works in the medical field, told the police.

According to residents of Gunat village, the accused is married and has children. He also has a brother and his parents are farm labourers, say villagers.

Earlier today, Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik ordered a security audit of all bus stations and depots of the State Road Transport Corporation.

The minister has also directed authorities to deploy women security guards, an MSRTC release said. He also asked police to increase patrolling at depots and bus stations, adding that depot managers must stay at the facility to keep an eye on happenings.

The MSRTC issued an internal circular asking staffers to wear proper uniforms with nameplate for identification.

CCTV cameras will be made mandatory along with GPS and panic buttons in around 15,000 MSRTC buses, including those hired from private contractors, Mr Sarnaik said.

Ashwini Vaishnaw Questions Rahul Gandhi's Stance On 3-Language Policy In Tamil Nadu

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday questioned Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi over his stance on the Tamil Nadu government's resistance towards the three-language policy in the state.

Mr Vaishnaw in a post on X, responded to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's post wherein he said that the push for a "monolithic Hindi identity" is what 'killed' the "ancient mother tongues."

"Poor governance will never be hidden by such shallow attempts to divide society. It will be interesting to know what the Leader of the Opposition,@RahulGandhiJi, has to say on this subject. Does he, as MP of a Hindi-speaking seat, agree?" posted Mr Vaishnaw on X.

This comes after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's post on X on the three-language policy.

"My dear sisters and brothers from other states, Ever wondered how many Indian languages Hindi has swallowed? Bhojpuri, Maithili, Awadhi, Braj, Bundeli, Garhwali, Kumaoni, Magahi, Marwari, Malvi, Chhattisgarhi, Santhali, Angika, Ho, Kharia, Khortha, Kurmali, Kurukh, Mundari and many more are now gasping for survival," MK Stalin's post read.

"The push for a monolithic Hindi identity is what kills ancient mother tongues. UP and Bihar were never just 'Hindi heartlands.' Their real languages are now relics of the past. Tamil Nadu resists because we know where this ends," read the post from Stalin.

Tamil organisations and state parties have accused the central government of trying to impose Hindi on Tamil Nadu, though the Union government has maintained that it respects the Tamil language and is not forcing any other language on the state.

Earlier on February 26, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu, accusing its leaders of corruption and misgovernance.

Speaking at the inauguration of BJP district offices in Coimbatore, Tiruvannamalai, and Ramanathapuram, Shah said, "In cases of corruption, all the leaders of the DMK hold a master's degree. One of their leaders is embroiled in a cash-for-jobs case, another is involved in money laundering and illegal sand mining, and a third is facing charges related to disproportionate assets."

Rejecting CM MK Stalin's allegations that Tamil Nadu was denied central funds, Shah said, "There is no truth in MK Stalin's statement. The Modi government has given Rs 5 lakh crore to Tamil Nadu in the last five years."

Mocking the DMK, Shah said that those involved in corruption should join the membership drive of MK Stalin's party.

The DMK has been vocal about protecting the Tamil language and resisting any efforts to make Hindi 'more dominant', arguing that it would undermine Tamil culture and identity.

The DMK has raised significant concerns over its implications on education in Tamil Nadu, accusing the central government of using the policy to "impose religious ideas on the education system."

Donald Trump Holds First Cabinet Meeting In Second Term, Elon Musk Attends

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday convened his first Cabinet meeting since returning to office last month. Elon Musk, his billionaire adviser tasked with radically downsizing the US government, attended the meeting.

Despite Musk's lack of ministerial portfolio or formal decision-making authority, he is classified as a "special government employee" and "senior adviser to the president" by heading DOGE, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Musk, meanwhile, has already been dealing with upheaval within DOGE. One-third of his staff resigned in protest on Tuesday, days after he engineered a mass email to the federal government's two million workers, ordering them to justify their work or risk being fired.

Government departments on Monday largely told staff to either ignore the DOGE-inspired email or downplay the risks of not answering it.

So far, thousands of mainly probationary workers -- employees who are recently hired, promoted or otherwise changed roles -- have been terminated since Trump's inauguration.

Iran's Near-Bomb-Grade Uranium Stock Jumps: UN Nuclear Watchdog IAEA Report

Iran's stock of uranium close to weapons-grade has jumped since it announced a dramatic acceleration in enrichment in December and there has been no progress on resolving outstanding issues, two reports by the UN nuclear watchdog said on Wednesday.

The stock of uranium enriched to up to 60% fissile purity, close to the roughly 90% of bomb-grade, has been a long-standing concern for Western powers, which say there is no civil justification for enriching uranium to such a high level. Iran says it seeks only peaceful nuclear energy.

While US President Donald Trump's administration has said it plans to pressure Iran over its nuclear programme, the International Atomic Energy Agency has said time is running out for diplomacy to impose new restrictions on Iran's activities.

"The significantly increased production and accumulation of high enriched uranium by Iran, the only non-nuclear weapon state to produce such nuclear material, is of serious concern," the International Atomic Energy Agency said in a passage that, unusually, was included in both its quarterly reports on Iran.

Those confidential reports, sent to member states on Wednesday and both seen by Reuters, showed that while the stock of 60% material grew by half, there was no real progress on resolving long-running outstanding issues including the unexplained presence of uranium traces at undeclared sites.

The stock of uranium refined to up to 60% in the form of uranium hexafluoride grew by 92.5 kg in the past quarter to 274.8 kg, one of two confidential IAEA reports said.

That is enough in principle, if enriched further, for six nuclear bombs, according to an IAEA yardstick. There is enough for more weapons at lower enrichment levels.

Where before its latest acceleration Iran was producing between 6 and 9 kilograms (13 and 20 pounds) of uranium enriched to up to 60% per month, now that figure is between 35 and 40 kg, a senior diplomat said. This is just short of the 42 kg that is enough in principle for one bomb, if refined further.

One of the reports spelled out the lack of progress on the outstanding issues such as explaining the uranium traces, which the IAEA has been asking the Islamic Republic to do for years.

"Iran states that it has declared all of the nuclear material, activities and locations required under its Safeguards Agreement. This is inconsistent with the Agency's assessments," it said.

"The Agency is, therefore, at an impasse with regard to resolving these outstanding safeguards issues."

During his first, 2017-21 term as president, Trump withdrew the United States from a landmark deal between Iran and major powers that placed strict limits on Tehran's nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief. After Trump pulled out in 2018, Iran breached and far surpassed those limits.

With the deal now largely in tatters, European powers are seeking to either have the US help agree new limits on Iran's nuclear programme or use a mechanism in the deal to re-impose all sanctions before the deal expires in October.

Man Undergoes Rare Transplant, Lives With 5 Kidneys In Delhi

A 47-year-old man has undergone a rare third kidney transplant at a private hospital here, leaving him with a total of five kidneys in his body.

A surgery was performed at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, on Devendra Barlewar, who had been battling chronic kidney disease for 15 years and had undergone two failed transplants in 2010 and 2012.

Dr. Ahmed Kamaal, Senior Consultant, Urology, said the patient's condition worsened further after COVID-19 complications in 2022.

However, when a 50-year-old brain-dead farmer's family decided to donate his kidneys, hope emerged for Barlewar.

The four-hour-long surgery, conducted last month, posed significant medical challenges due to the presence of four non-functioning kidneys -- two native and two previously transplanted ones, Kamaal said in a statement.

He explained that the multiple existing kidneys increased the risk of immune rejection, requiring specialised immunosuppression protocols before the procedure.

Dr. Anil Sharma, Senior Consultant, Urology, highlighted the surgical complexities, saying, "We faced space constraints due to the patient's thin build and an existing incisional hernia." "Since previous surgeries had already used the standard blood vessels, we had to connect the new kidney to the largest abdominal blood vessels, making it a highly intricate procedure," he said.

Despite the challenges, the transplant was successful, and the patient was discharged within ten days with stable kidney function.

Speaking about patient's condition, Dr Sharma said that Barlewar's creatinine levels normalised within two weeks, allowing him to live dialysis-free.

Expressing his gratitude, Barlewar said, that he had lost hope after two failed transplants.

He said that dialysis had severely restricted his life, but the at Amrita Hospital gave him another chance when no one else did.

He added that today, he can perform daily activities independently, and his overall health has also improved.

For Children Of Jammu And Kashmir, Amit Shah's Message Of Peace

"Naya Kashmir" is evolving rapidly and is moving towards peace and development, and with the help of young people, the government aspires to make it a place where no one dies due to terrorism, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said today. Kashmir, once was badly affected by bomb blasts and terrorism, has undergone a remarkable transformation in the last decade, he added.

"Over the last 10 years, not only the level of violence but also the number of civilian killings have dropped by 80 per cent," the minister said while addressing 250 children from Jammu and Kashmir who were visiting Delhi as part of the programme "Apne watan ko jano (Know your motherland)".

"Incidents of stone throwing, bomb blasts and terrorism have been eliminated, allowing schools to function smoothly. Infrastructure development, including roads, hospitals, and universities, has progressed rapidly. Moreover, 36,000 elected public representatives now have their rightful authority at the Panchayat and Municipality levels, strengthening grassroots democracy in the region," he told the gathering.

When terrorism comes to an end, there will be no need for the deployment of police or security forces, the minister said.

"That day is not far when there will be no weapons in anyone's hands, and there will be no need for police or army with weapons... When there is peace, no police will be required," Mr Shah added.

He tasked the children with going back to their villages and talking to their families and friends about peace, harmony, and development. "When you go home, tell your friends, neighbours that the entire country is living in peace and the people of Jammu and Kashmir should also live in peace," Mr Shah said.

Data from the ministry shows that over the last three decades, 38,000 people have been killed in Kashmir due to violence.

His audience included 250 children from weaker sections of Jammu and Kashmir -- 62 girls and 188 boys in the age group of 9-18 years. The group had earlier visited Jaipur, Ajmer and Delhi under "Watan Ko Jano" programme organized by Social Welfare Department of the J&K government in coordination with Union Home Ministry.

So far, 2,868 young people have participated in "Watan Ko Jano" programme. Ministry officials say the participants are mainly picked from the orphanages located in the districts.

"Preference is given to children from terrorism affected families, destitute children and children from weaker sections," a senior official said.

"Population Control": MK Stalin On Why Tamil Nadu Losing Out In Delimitation

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin has again weighed in on the row over the decreasing number of parliamentary seats for the southern states after delimitation. This he said, is because the state has implemented the family planning programme. The family "planning campaign" being properly followed, "there is a situation of reducing the number of Parliamentary seats as part of the delimitation exercise," he said.

The possibility of a reduction in the number of their existing Parliamentary seats has been an issue of massive discontent in southern states.

Chief Minister Stalin had touched upon the subject earlier as well, saying the delimitation may push people to think about raising "16 children" - an allusion to a Tamil saying on 16 kinds of wealth.
He said because the people of the state follow the concept of family planning, "there is a situation of reducing the number of Parliamentary seats as part of the delimitation exercise".

Tamil Nadu, which has 39 LS seats, has been opposed to any reduction in their numbers following delimitation.

On Sunday, speaking at a wedding of a senior party functionary in his Kolathur constituency, Mr Stalin also urged the newlyweds to give their children proper Tamil names - a concern that apparently touched upon the ongoing language row, which has been dominating headlines following the BJP's decision to push for a three-language policy with a door-to-door campaign.

The ruling DMK has called it the "imposition" of Hindi and Mr Stalin has accused the centre of "blackmailing" the state by withholding education funds.

The Chief Minister, however, has said the National Education Policy would not be allowed in Tamil Nadu even if the Centre offered funds to the tune of Rs 10,000 crore.

His son Udhayanidhi Stalin has said the state is ready for a "language war".

Tamil Nadu has historically had a 'two-language' policy -- it teaches Tamil and English, and witnessed massive anti-Hindi agitations in the 1930s and 1960s.

Thadou Leaders Meet Home Ministry's Adviser For Northeast, Present Manipur Peace Roadmap

The leadership team of Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) led by its president and general secretary met with the Home Ministry's adviser for the northeast, AK Mishra, and discussed the situation in violence-hit Manipur, TIM said in a statement.

TIM said its delegation presented a peace roadmap for lasting peace in Manipur, "concurrently highlighting the untold sufferings of the Thadou tribe, who have been the most affected yet silenced victims of the tragic violence that broke out on May 3, 2023."

"It was also reiterated and explained that Thadou is not Kuki, or underneath Kuki, or part of Kuki, but a separate, independent entity from Kuki. The atrocities and persecution of the Thadou people because of their Thadou identity at the hands of Kuki supremacist forces, especially the armed Kuki supremacist militant groups and their frontal civil organizations, for the last several decades were also highlighted," TIM said in the statement.

"During the meeting, a highlight was also made about the critically important role played by the peace-loving Thadou community as peacemakers in the best interest and integrity of the community and our nation India. The role has been taken up despite threats of violence and death and actual lethal violent attacks from anti-peace groups and individuals, who are hell-bent on destroying Thadou identity," TIM said.

It said Mr Mishra spoke about peace efforts in Manipur and steps taken up by the Centre, and acknowledged the concerns of the Thadou tribe.

"He also agreed about the prevailing misconceptions about Thadou being often mistaken as Kuki by many people due to ignorance or systematic disinformation. He expressed his deep appreciation and respect for Thadou identity and their stance, role and commitment of the Thadou community and their leadership for peace and non-violent solutions," TIM said, adding the Thadou community, the largest tribe in Manipur, is an important stakeholder for lasting peace and solutions.

During last year's Thadou Convention held in Assam's Guwahati, Thadou tribe leaders had said that Thadou is a distinct ethnic group of people.

"Thadou is not Kuki, or underneath Kuki, or part of Kuki, but a separate, independent entity from Kuki. Any organisation that incorporates 'Thadou' but espouses Kuki and misportrays Thadou as Kuki or a part of Kuki is illegitimate and does not represent Thadou people and interest," the Thadou Convention had said in a resolution.

The Kuki tribes and the Meiteis have been fighting since May 2023 over a range of issues such as land rights and political representation. The conflict has killed over 250 people and left over 50,000 internally displaced.

Driver Killed, 17 Injured As Bus Carrying Pilgrims Falls Into Gorge in J&K

A driver from Himachal Pradesh was killed and 17 pilgrims were injured when a bus returning from Mata Vaishno Devi shrine skidded off the road and plunged into a 30-feet gorge near Jammu on Saturday evening, officials said.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief over the accident and praised the rescue teams and officials for their prompt and commendable effort.

The bus, bearing registration number UK-07PA-5640, was on its way to Delhi and the accident took place near Manda, nearly eight kilometres from the Jammu bus stand, the officials said.

They said a rescue operation was launched soon after the driver lost control while negotiating a curve and the bus plunged into the gorge.

All the 17 injured passengers were rescued and evacuated to the Government Medical College Hospital and their condition was stated to be "stable", the officials said.

However, the driver of the bus died on the spot and later his body was retrieved from the scene by a joint party of police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), traffic police and fire and emergency services personnel after a strenuous effort lasting more than two hours, the officials said.

They said the victim was identified as Rakesh. His body was shifted to the GMC Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

The injured pilgrims are from Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh, the officials said.

The chief minister extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the victim and also wished a swift recovery to the injured.

"Deeply saddened by the bus accident at Manda, carrying pilgrims from Katra to Delhi. My heartfelt condolences to the family of the driver who lost his life in this tragic incident.

"Thankfully, all injured passengers are stable and receiving medical care. Wishing them a swift recovery.

"Grateful to the rescue teams and officials for their prompt and commendable efforts. My office is in touch with the concerned authorities," Abdullah wrote on X.

"Folly To Be Wise...": Shashi Tharoor's Cryptic Post Amid Congress Rift Buzz

Amid the buzz of a rift between him and the Congress over his recent praise of certain policies of the Pinarayi Vijayan-led CPI(M) government in Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor has put up a cryptic post on X, stating, that being wise is sometimes a mistake.

Sharing a quote from English poet Thomas Gray's poem 'Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College', Mr Tharoor wrote, "Though of the Day: "Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise."

Mr Tharoor has been at the receiving end of criticism from Kerala Congress leaders for his praise of some of the CPI(M) government's policies in the state and the PM's US visit.

Mr Tharoor defended his praise for PM Modi's US visit and said that he spoke with India's interests in mind and that "we cannot always speak only in terms of party interest." He noted that PM Modi being the fourth world leader to meet Trump after he took office underscored India's growing importance on the global stage.

Following his praise for Prime Minister Modi, he appreciated the entrepreneurial growth of CPI(M)-led Kerala in an article. The Left party welcomed the Congress MP's validation, terming Mr Tharoor's comments as recognition of Pinarayi Vijayan's administration's achievements.

"As a Member of Parliament from Kerala, I wrote this article focusing on a specific issue -- the transformation of the industrial landscape through the growth of the startup sector. As a Congress worker, I take pride in acknowledging that it was former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy who initiated this change," he wrote in Malayalam.

He credited Chandy's policies for laying the foundation for Kerala's startup ecosystem, citing initiatives like the 'Startup Village' and the 'Kerala Startup Mission', which have been continued by the current government.

Kerala Congress vs Shashi Tharoor

The row escalated after, Veekshanam Daily, the Congress party's mouthpiece in Kerala, published an editorial criticising Congress leader Shashi Tharoor -without naming him.

It urged him not to betray the expectations of thousands of party workers ahead of the upcoming local body elections.

The strongly worded editorial stated that an anti-incumbency wave was prevalent in the state and that attempts to suppress it by those responsible for fuelling it represented a 'distorted' political practice.

A day later, Mr Tharoor withdrew a poster from his Facebook, reportedly from the Kerala Congress Committee, which referred to members of the CPI(M) as "cannibals".

Hours after sharing the controversial poster commemorating Kripesh and Sarathlal, the Youth Congress workers who were killed in Periya in Kasaragod district, by CPI(M) workers five years ago, Mr Tharoor made another post, sharing their photos but without any reference to the CPI(M).

"Tamilians Have Died For A Language, Don't Play With It": Kamal Haasan

Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan addressed party cadres in Chennai on Friday on the 8th foundation day of his party, Makkal Needhi Maiyam (MNM), emphasizing the importance of linguistic pride.

Marking the milestone, Haasan hoisted the party flag at the MNM headquarters in Chennai.

In his address, Haasan underscored the challenges faced by Tamilians, particularly in their fight to preserve their language. He referred to Tamil Nadu's historic struggle against the imposition of Hindi, warning those who might take language issues lightly.

"Tamilians have lost their lives for a language. Don't play with those things. Tamilians, even children, know what language they need. They have the knowledge to choose which language they need," Haasan said, referring to the longstanding sentiment for linguistic autonomy.

He also acknowledged the criticism of his political career, with detractors calling him a "failed politician." However, Haasan reflected on his journey, admitting that he might have entered politics earlier.

"I feel I lost because I entered politics too late. If I had entered 20 years ago, my speech and position would have been different," he said.

Addressing his party workers, Haasan signalled MNM's upcoming political ambitions, stating that this year the party's voice would be heard in Parliament, and next year, it would be felt in the state Assembly. He urged his supporters to begin preparing for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, stressing the importance of their active participation.

"Today we are 8 years old, like a child growing up. This year, our voice will be heard in Parliament, and next year, your voices will reflect in the Assembly," he said.

Mizoram Plans To Amend Liquor Prohibition Law, May Allow Sale Of Wine, Beer

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Friday said his government was planning to amend the liquor prohibition law, which has been in force since May 2019, to allow the sale of wine and beer in the state.

During a discussion on the motion of thanks on the governor's address in the assembly, Lalduhoma said his government had no intention of lifting the ban on hard liquor but was planning to regulate the sale of wine and beer.

He said that a bill to amend the prohibition law will be introduced in the assembly during the ongoing budget session.

"Our excise and narcotics minister will introduce an amendment bill to the existing prohibition law to regulate the sale of beer and wine, during this ongoing budget session," he said.

The Mizoram Liquor (Prohibition) Act was enacted by the previous MNF government in 2019, which replaced the Mizoram Liquor (Prohibition & Control) Act, 2014, brought by the then Congress government, allowing the sale of wine in the state.

The Mizoram Liquor (Prohibition) Act imposed a blanket ban on the sale, manufacture and consumption of liquor, including wine and beer, in the state, barring three autonomous district councils.

In September 2022, the government allowed the manufacture, sale and export of wines processed from locally-grown grapes following massive protests by grape growers.

The first wine shop in Mizoram was opened in 1984. After 11 years of relaxation and partial prohibition, the then Congress government introduced The Mizoram Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1995, which imposed a complete ban on liquor.

The total prohibition remained until 2014 when the government allowed the sale of wine.

The prohibition in the Christian-majority state is often blamed for the prevalence of drug abuse among a large section of the youth.

"If Individual Judges Have Quibbles, Correct Thing Is To...": DY Chandrachud

Former chief justice of India D Y Chandrachud said on Friday that if an individual judge has a certain quibble about a particular decision, the correct thing is to approach the chief justice and have a conversation, instead of bringing it out for a public dialogue.

He was responding to questions at an event titled "Fireside Chat" after the inaugural ceremony of "Vidhi Utsav 2025, The Festival of Law, Legal Literature and Luminaries" organised by Oakbridge Publishing.

Justice Chandrachud said judicial institutions cannot function efficiently unless there is a well-laid-down procedure that adds certainty, objectivity and transparency, be it in the preparation of the judge's roster, the procedure to be followed or in terms of the practice directions.

"Speaking for myself, I also feel that if an individual judge in an institution has a certain quibble about a particular decision, the correct thing is to go to the chief justice and have a conversation.

"Laying it up for, you know, public dialogue perhaps detracts from the value of institutional roles. So if you have an issue, the best thing is to talk to the chief justice and get it sorted out," he said.

The former CJI said the bench requires uniformity in certain areas as it is dealing with the bar and the bar expects a degree of certainty on how cases will be taken up.

"You are also dealing with real-life cases of citizens. Now, if a particular high court has, say, 35 or 40 benches and you have 40 different procedural modalities which are followed, there will be chaos.

"And therefore, when it is said that, you know, the chief justice is the master of the roster, which is a highly-debated phrase in today's times, the purpose of this is to bring in a degree of uniformity, because institutions cannot otherwise function and they cannot function efficiently," he said.

Regarding the changes brought in judicial institutions, Justice Chandrachud said these should be institutionalised.

"Very often, the changes which are brought into a system are treated to be individual-centric. Sometimes you find that this is exploited by, maybe the bar on some occasions, it can be exploited by various other quarters to sort of suddenly mark a break from the past once there is a change in the helm of the administration. Speaking for myself, I always believe that the changes which you bring about must be institutionalised and therefore, setting up institutions and processes within the institutions is as important as making actual decisions," he said.

Suffering from Bell's Palsy, Ability To Speak Affected: Maharashtra Minister

Embattled Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Dhananjay Munde on Thursday said he has been diagnosed with Bell's Palsy, a condition that causes sudden weakness in face muscles, which had severely affected his ability to speak.

Mr Munde made the announcement on Facebook.

"Currently, I cannot speak properly for even two minutes, which has prevented me from attending cabinet meetings and public events," Mr Munde said in the post.

Munde assured Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar that he was committed to overcoming his illness and returning to public service as soon as possible.

The minister had undergone eye surgery under Dr TP Lahane some 15 days ago, and he had been advised to stay away from bright lights, dust and sun exposure.

Mr Munde is under fire from the opposition and some Mahayuti colleagues after close aide Walmik Karad was held in an extortion case linked to the abduction and brutal murder of sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh in Massajog in Beed on December 9.

Mr Munde has maintained he has no connection with the sarpanch case and has also refuted allegations of irregularities when he was agriculture minister earlier.

Kashmiri Student Brutally Ragged, Assaulted At Karnataka Medical College

A second-year MBBS student was allegedly assaulted at a medical college in Karnataka's Vijayapura. The victim, Hameem, a second-year MBBS student at Al-Ameen Medical College is from Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag. The student has alleged that he was subjected to brutal ragging and threats by senior students from the 2019 batch which reportedly began on Tuesday evening during a cricket match.

On Tuesday at around 4 PM Hameem was watching a match between the 2019 and 2022 batches on the college premises when a senior student ordered him to stay outside the boundary line. Hameem complied without protest, watching from a distance.

Tensions flared when a group of seniors confronted him. They questioned his presence and demanded that he leave but Hameem refused. Then a group of seniors forced him to sing songs, and dance for their amusement. The humiliation did not end there. The seniors allegedly tried to force him into a car. When he took out his phone to record the incident, they became even more aggressive.

Later that night, a group of 6-8 individuals stormed into Hameem's hostel room. They assaulted him, forcing him to record a video apologising under duress. "You have four more years here. We are locals-imagine how terrible we can make your life," the attackers warned him.

They also told him he would not be allowed to play cricket for the remainder of his time at the college.

All the accused have been arrested now.

Nasir Khuehami, National Convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, condemned the attack in a statement, calling it a "deeply disturbing" case of ragging and violence.

"We urge the Karnataka Chief Minister to personally intervene in this matter, ensure swift justice for the victim, and take strict action against those responsible to prevent such incidents from recurring in educational institutions," he said in a social media post.

Last Chance To Watch Planetary Parade Until 2040: Check Details

The so-called planetary parade which started last month is heading towards its grand finale. For a brief moment on February 28, all planets in our solar system will appear in the night sky - a celestial phenomenon that scientists have described as rare.

After Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune aligned in the night sky between January 21 and 29, it will be the last time until 2040 that all seven planets, including Mercury, will align to create a spectacular night sky.

What is planetary alignment?

Astronomers use planetary alignment to describe the phenomenon when planets gather closely on one side of the Sun at the same time. Any number of planets, ranging from three to eight constitutes an alignment. Five or six planets showing up together is known as a large alignment, with five-planet alignments significantly more frequent than six. However, seven-planet alignments are the rarest of all.

Unlike diagrams and illustrations, the planets will not be visible in a queue. Planets orbit the Sun in different orbits in three-dimensional space which makes it almost impossible for them to come together in a straight line.

"While it's true that they [planets] will appear more or less along a line across the sky, that's what planets always do. That line is called the ecliptic, and it represents the plane of the solar system in which the planets orbit around the Sun," NASA explains.

"This is, incidentally, why we sometimes observe planets appearing to approach closely to each other on the sky, as we view them along a line while they careen around the cosmic racetrack."

Also Read | Planetary Parade 2025: How And Where To See This Rare Celestial Event In India

How to view the planetary parade?

To witness the parade of planets, get far away from city lights to an open area or hill. If the weather is clear, you will be able to see most planets to the naked eye, bar Neptune and Uranus. A telescope might help you witness these two planets.

Notably, Mars will appear in the east, Jupiter and Uranus in the southeast, and Venus, Neptune, and Saturn in the west. While January was special due to the Quadrantid meteor shower and the partial planetary parade, February has the ingredients to be even more special, owing to the rare alignment.

Local AAP Leader, Girlfriend Arrested Over His Wife's Murder In Punjab

Police on Monday arrested a local AAP leader, his girlfriend and four alleged contract killers in connection with the murder of his wife, who is also a party leader.

Lipsy Mittal (33), wife of Anokh Mittal, was killed on Saturday by robbers near a village here, officials said.

Anokh and his wife Lipsy were returning home after having dinner at a hotel on the Ludhiana-Malerkotla road, police had said.

He had initially told the police that robbers intercepted them on Saturday, attacked the couple with sharp-edged weapons and fled with their car.

Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal said that the key conspirator of the murder turned out to be the woman's husband.

He said that the police have arrested her husband and local AAP leader Anokh Mittal (35), also a businessman and his 24-year-old girlfriend.

Police said that Anokh's wife had discovered that her husband had an extramarital affair following which he hatched the plan to his wife with the girlfriend.

The commissioner said that besides Anokh and his girlfriend, four contract killers -- Amritpal Singh alias Balli (26), Gurdeep Singh alias Manni (25), Sonu Singh (24) and Sagardeep Singh alias Teji (30) -- have also been arrested.

He added that Amritpal, Gurdeep and Sonu are from nearby village Nandpur and Sagardeep is a resident of Dhandari Kalan.

Meanwhile, the kingpin of the contract killers' gang, Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, is still on the run, he said.

Anokh had promised to pay Rs 2.5 lakhs to the contract killers and paid Rs 50,000 in advance, the police officer said.

Further investigations were in progress, police said.

Taiwan Considering Multi-Billion Dollar Arms Purchase From US: Report

Taiwan is exploring buying arms worth billions of dollars from the United States, sources briefed on the matter said, hoping to win support from the new Trump administration as China continues to apply military pressure on the island.

Three sources familiar with the situation, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity given the sensitivity of the situation, told Reuters that Taiwan is in talks with Washington.

The package is meant to demonstrate to the United States that Taiwan is committed to its defense, one of the sources said.

A second source said the package would include coastal defense cruise missiles and HIMARS rockets.

"I would be very surprised if it was less than $8 billion. Somewhere between $7 billion to $10 billion," the source added.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. However, US national security adviser Mike Waltz has said he wants to speed delivery of weapons to Taiwan.

Taiwan's defense ministry declined to comment on specific purchases but said it is focused on building its defenses.

"Any weaponry and equipment that can achieve those goals for building the military are listed as targets for tender," it said.

China claims democratically governed Taiwan as its own territory and has never renounced the use of force to bring the island under its control. Taiwan strongly objects to China's sovereignty claims and says only the island's people can decide their future.

TRUMP-TAIWAN RELATIONS

US President Donald Trump unnerved chip powerhouse Taiwan on the election campaign trail by saying the island stole American semiconductor business. This month, he threatened tariffs on chip imports.

But his administration maintained diplomatic support for the Chinese-claimed island.

Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba issued a joint statement on February 7 opposing any attempt to change the current situation in the Taiwan Strait through force or coercion. The U.S. State Department also removed language on its website that it does not support Taiwan independence, a move praised by the island's government. China has urged the US to "correct its mistakes".

Taiwan plans to propose a special defense budget that prioritizes precision ammunition, air-defense upgrades, command and control systems, equipment for the reserve forces and anti-drone technology, a third source familiar with the matter said.

During his 2017-2021 term, Trump established regular arms sales to Taiwan, including multi-billion dollar deals for F-16 fighter jets. The Biden administration continued these sales, though often with smaller price tags.

Taiwanese officials see encouraging signs from Trump's administration even as tariff threats weigh on that optimism.

Taiwan does not believe Trump is looking to make a "grand bargain" with Chinese President Xi Jinping to sell out Taiwan's interests, one of the sources said. Trump is more concerned with putting tariffs on semiconductors, the source said.

In another sign of US commitment to Taiwan, the top US diplomat in Taiwan, Raymond Greene, will retain his post, three sources told Reuters, even as other US diplomatic postings undergo major reshuffles.

The US State Department did not immediately respond to a question about Greene's job status.

Overweight Doctor Loses 25 Kg In 42 Days, Wins Multiple Fitness Awards

A doctor who shed an impressive 25 kilograms in just 42 days has gone viral on Chinese social media platforms after he ended up winning multiple awards at a fitness contest, according to a report in South China Morning Post. 31-year-old Wu Tiangen, working as a surgeon at the Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University in central Hubei province, decided to embark upon the fitness journey after gaining weight due to the sedentary lifestyle often associated with hospital work.

Wu was diagnosed with a light fatty liver in 2023 with his weight reaching 97.5 kg last year. In his day job, Wu dealt with obese patients and helped them lose weight through surgery. However, after seeing his condition, Wu decided to shake things up.

"If I cannot save myself, how can I save others?" said Wu.

Wu hired Shi Fan, a top athlete who won the Overall Fit Model championship at the IFBB World Fit Model Championships in Lithuania last year, as his coach and started the weight loss journey.

The student-coach duo chalked up a plan to shed fat and increase muscle over a short period. The only non-negotiables in the process were two hours of exercise every day and consistent six hours of sleep.

The competition

His dedication was such that he managed to reduce his weight in roughly six weeks. As the competition approached, Wu intensified his training by spending close to four hours a day in the gym.

"Wu's training intensity exceeds that of many professional athletes," said Shi.

Weighing 73.5 kg and 182 cm tall, Wu took part in the Tianrui Cup Fitness and Bodybuilding Match in January. Being the only doctor in the fray, the challenge was intimidating but Wu managed to win the champion titles in the newcomer and fit models categories as well as the most popular participant.

Quizzed about his advice to those wanting to become healthy like him, Wu said: "You should make a long-term plan to lose weight and insist on it. I do not advocate drastic, short-term methods which require eating very little," said Wu.

As per the report, Wu has already helped about 100 people successfully reduce their weight in recent years.

BRICS Summit Planned For July In Rio de Janeiro: Brazil

Leaders of the countries known as BRICS will hold a summit in Rio de Janeiro in July, the current chair Brazil announced Saturday.

Other members of the trading bloc include Russia, India, China and South Africa and others.

Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira said on the social media platform X that the summit will be held July 6-7 and feature leaders of 20 countries with full or associate status in the bloc.

At this meeting "we will make very important decisions for the development of all these countries, for cooperation and for improving the living conditions of all their inhabitants," Vieira said.

US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose 100 percent tariffs on the BRICS countries if they undercut the US dollar.

At a BRICS summit in October in Russia, the member countries discussed boosting non-dollar transactions and strengthening local currencies.

The government of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has said that under the Brazilian presidency the BRICS bloc will focus on strengthening cooperation with developing nations of the so-called Global South and on reforming multilateral institutions.

He said Brazil's priorities for the bloc include "developing means of payment" to encourage trade and investment among member states.

Last month, Brazil's chief negotiator for the BRICS group, Eduardo Saboia, told AFP there is no concrete plan to replace the dollar but rather talks on using local currencies in transactions.

The BRICS group has expanded significantly since its inception in 2009, and now includes countries such as Iran, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.

Altogether the BRICS coalition accounts for a significant minority of the world's economic output.

"Cut Down Larger States If India Wants 8% Growth": Montek Singh Ahluwalia

Former Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission of India and economist Montek Singh Ahluwalia said on Wednesday that large states can be split so that new cities can emerge, giving impetus to urbanisation.

According to him, if India is going to grow at 8 per cent, then the urban population is going to grow more rapidly than cities' infrastructure .

"I'm not suggesting what you should do in Karnataka, but it's my general view. We should seriously consider cutting down many of the largest states into two or three," said Ahluwalia.

He was addressing a session on 'Resilient Pathways: Charting India's Economic Growth Amid Global Challenges' at Invest Karnataka 2025, being held here till February 14.

"Gandhiji said India lives in its villages, and many people still regard that as a sort of romantic vision. But I don't think he said India will continue to do so 100 years later," Ahluwalia added.

He said picking up some tier-2 towns and developing them into "near-metros" is the solution for over-saturated cities like Bengaluru, for instance. He said even though there "ought to be spilling over into other cities", this does not happen organically.

"The only known cases in India where this happens is when a new state is carved out and a capital has to be created," he added.

Ahluwalia recalled former UP Chief Minister and BSP leader Mayawati had suggested splitting her state into three.

"Had this been done, there would have been a political willingness instantly to create three new good cities," he added.

He also pointed out that people have said this could be done in many other states.

"In Maharashtra, for example, there are people who said the Vidarbha region should be made a separate state with Nagpur as its capital," he added.

While stating that tough decisions such as this are not politically easy, he said change happens only with interesting reforms.

"Don't go back to 1991 for inspiration, because those were no brainer reforms, really. The world was speaking one language then," he added.

"We started the reforms after Eastern Europe had abolished communism. There was only one thing to do which was integrating with the global market," he explained further.

According to him, this has become much more complex now, as India is faced with a world that is now fragmented.

"Geopolitical tensions are now rising, the US has its own problems not only with its closest allies, like Canada and Mexico, but also with China. China is cozying up to Russia. Russia is becoming more dependent on China. Europeans are very scared of Russia. They are not so bothered about China," he said.

Although he agreed that Bengaluru enjoys a lot of advantages, Ahluwalia added that making a city liveable is not just the result of getting a lot of companies to invest.

"There's a whole lot of urban management that has to be done. The first thing that should be done is that the Bengaluru city government should be made hugely more efficient. Now, unfortunately, in our country, city governments don't have much power, and that's true of all states," said Ahluwalia, apparently about city civic bodies.

Replying to a question by the moderator of the session, Salman Anees Soz, whether he wished he did something differently, Ahluwalia said when one does a reform, it's not like planning the trajectory of a rocket.

"When they shoot up a rocket, there's a nice trajectory drawn out. The slightest deviation from that trajectory is a problem. That's not what you do with economic reforms," he said.

According to him, when it comes to economic reforms, one has a broad idea, but one can't do everything and one ends up doing what comes first.

"I think it's very important to realise that in retrospect, it's always arguable what you should have done first," he added.

Water From Toilet Tap Used For Cooking At Medical College? Video Sparks Outrage

A video from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur has sparked outrage after it allegedly showed water from a toilet tap being used for cooking during a national medical conference last week.

A national-level medical conference, attended by doctors and medical experts from across the country, was held at the medical college on February 6. During the event, food was arranged for participants. However, a viral video now circulating on social media appears to show water being filled from a toilet tap and then being used for cooking.

Amid the uproar, the medical college's administration has issued a clarification. The college's dean, Navneet Saxena said that the water was only being used to clean dirty utensils and not for cooking. He claimed that the context of the video was being misrepresented.

The health department has called for an investigation. Dr Sanjay Mishra, Chief Medical Officer, said, "The conference was organised in the New Academic Block and food is sometimes cooked in open spaces behind it. While the video shows water from a toilet tap being used, the information we have suggests it was meant only for washing utensils. However, since this has been brought to our notice, I have written to the dean for an official investigation."

Philadelphia Plane Crash: How Three Young Lives Were Changed Forever

At least seven people were killed and 24 injured when a medevac jet crashed into a northeast Philadelphia neighbourhood on January 31. The aircraft was up in flames and the debris flew into homes and vehicles. Among those affected were three young children, two barely escaped with their lives.

Ten-year-old Andre Howard Jr. was struck by debris while shielding his four-year-old sister. Eleven-year-old Valentina Guzman Murillo, who had just been discharged from the hospital after battling spina bifida, died in the crash alongside her mother. And nine-year-old Ramesses Dreuitt suffered severe burns after his father's car was engulfed in flames.

Andre Howard Jr had just left Dunkin' Donuts with his family when disaster struck. "We heard a boom, a really loud boom, and we saw a fireball that covered the whole entire sky," his father, Andre Howard Sr, recalled to CNN.

As debris rained down, young Andre instinctively covered his sister. He was knocked unconscious by a metal fragment that lodged in his head. His father rushed him to the hospital, where doctors feared he might never walk again. But after emergency surgery, he is now stable and expected to recover.

When he regained consciousness, his first question was, "Did I save her from the crash?"

Ramesses Dreuitt, 9, was in his father's car when the crash triggered a deadly fire. His grandmother, Virgen Viera, recognised him in a viral video - his small, burned body emerging from the flames. His father, 37-year-old Steven Dreuitt, did not survive.

The little boy, suffering burns on 90 per cent of his body, is now in a coma in a Boston burn unit. His family has asked for prayers as he fights to recover.

Valentina Guzman Murillo, 11, had just been released from Shriners Children's Philadelphia hospital after receiving treatment for spina bifida. She and her mother, Lizeth Murillo Osuna, were flying home to Mexico when their medevac jet crashed.

"The plan was to bring them home to live out the rest of her life surrounded with love and with her adoring family," said Susan Marie Fasino, who had been helping the family. Hospital staff gathered earlier that day to bid farewell to Valentina. "She will be remembered for her sweet spirit," Shriners spokesperson Mel Bower told CNN.

A 23-year-old woman died of cardiac arrest while she was dancing during a marriage function at a resort in Madhya Pradesh's Vidisha district.

The woman has been identified as Parinita Jain, a resident of Indore, who had come to Vidisha to attend the marriage function of her cousin's sister.

A video surfaced on social media showed that Parinita was dancing on stage during the 'haldi' function where more than 200 guests were present.

A viral video showed while Parinita was dancing to a Bollywood song 'lehra ke balkha ke', she collapsed all of a sudden on stage on Saturday night.

It came to light when the video of the incident surfaced on social media.

Family members, who are doctors and were present at the function, tried to give her CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), however, she didn't respond.

She was immediately rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared her dead.

Parinita, who was a MBA graduate was living with her parents in Indore's South Tukoganj.

According to official information, one of her younger brothers also died of a heart attack at the age of 12.

However, this is not the first such incident when people dancing to music tunes collapsed and died in Madhya Pradesh.

In October last year, a 15-year-old boy died of cardiac arrest while he was playing cricket in Agar-Malwa district.

Similarly, a 73-year-old man suffered a heart attack and died on the spot while dancing on stage during a yoga programme in Madhya Pradesh's Indore.

Chiefs of 3 Dairies Arrested In Connection With Tirupati Laddoo Case

Four men, who head three dairies in three states, have been arrested in connection with the Tirupati laddoo adulteration case that had shocked the country last year. The investigation by a special team set up the Supreme Court after a massive controversy, has uncovered the details of the deliberate contamination.

Those arrested include Bipin Jain and Pomil Jain, former directors of Bhole Baba Dairy (Roorkee, Uttarakhand), Vaishnavi Dairy (Poonambakkam, Tamil Nadu) CEO Apoorva Vinay Kant Chawda, and AR Dairy (Dundigal, Telangana) MD Raju Rajasekharan.

The investigation revealed serious violations during ghee supply, with irregularities at every step.

For the supply of ghee, representatives of Vaishnavi Dairy secured tenders in the name of AR Dairy, said sources in the Central Bureau of Investigation. They fabricated false documents and seals, using the name of AR Dairy to manipulate the tender process.

Employees of Vaishnavi Dairy also created fake records claiming they have sourced ghee from Bhole Baba Dairy in Roorkee. The investigators found that Bhole Baba Dairy did not have the capacity to supply such quantities of ghee.

The team identified the irregularities and arrested four individuals from three dairies.

Man Travelling To US Via 'Dunki' Route Dies Of Cardiac Arrest In Guatemala

Punjab State Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal met with the family members of Gurpreet Singh, who wanted to go to America via the 'Dunki' route and died on the way at Guatemala of heart attack.

Mr Dhaliwal met the mourning family and told ANI that he will appeal to people to not go to any other country illegally.

"We have a lot of youth here. In the last two or three months, we have been struggling with the situation in America. The deceased had reached Guatemala. They were trying to reach the US through 'dunki' route. There he died with a heart attack," Mr Dhaliwal said.

"This is a request that no one should go illegally," he said

Mr Dhaliwal added that he has initiated a process to retrieve the body of the man who died.

"The deceased man, who was 33-year-old, was trying to go to America, through different countries. Their parents were also upset. They demand that they should be given their dead bodies. We have already started a process from our department in Punjab to get the dead body. But I request all the Punjab's parents and all the young people to not go anywhere through illegal way," the Punjab minister said.

"But this is an illegal way. The way of the donkey route is illegal. Look, how much damage has been done. They told us that they have lost Rs 36 lakh. So, this is the damage that is being done. And whoever wants to go, go legally. Going through illegal dunki, this is very sad," he said.

Gurpreet's brother, Tara Singh, told ANI that his brother had the 'American dream', for which he left three months back.

"My younger brother Gurpreet Singh, who had gone to America three months ago. He talked to a Chandigarh agent Balwinder Singh. He made a deal worth Rs 16.5 lakhs. He had sent my brother to Guyana. After that, there was a Pakistani agent named Mohammed. We found out that he was Pakistani only after his death. He spoke to him himself. He took the road to Colombia through the jungle of Panama. He had already taken the payment of 18-20 lakhs from the Pakistani Agency. He said he would take first payment and then take him by air. But he didn't, and instead took him by foot. He said they would leave in the jungle in about 25 hours. In Guatemala, they met with other people who were staying at the hotel. One of them called us and told us that he was dying. He sat in the car and said that he was having a breathing problem. In 5-7 minutes he said that he was attacked and he died," he said.

Singh said that it was his message to not repeat the same mistake his brother made.

"I will give a message, don't make such a mistake like my brother did. We had stopped him a lot, but he had only one thought in his mind that I have to go to America," he said.

He also said that he requested the government to bring his brother's remains back.

"I just want to get my brother's mortal remains back from the government," he said.

Gurpreet's brother also said that agents who promise to take people by air, but don't, must be penalized.

"Agents who take people illegally, should be held. They take the payment first, then the agent doesn't listen. They take them in their own way. Sometimes they put them in the chicken cart and take them. Sometimes they take them in the water tanker. I don't know anything. Instead of spending so much money, work here. It will be good," he said.

The news came as the US deported several Indian nationals who had allegedly migrated illegally to the United States. A US military C-17 Globemaster aircraft landed in Punjab's Amritsar on February 5 with 104 Indian nationals.

Want To Pursue Medical Education In US? Here's What You Need To Know

In India, students aspiring to become doctors must first clear the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). Every year, millions of students take this exam, competing for nearly one lakh medical seats. For many, NEET is a daunting challenge, and they fear that failing to score well could shatter their dream of becoming a doctor.

However, several countries do not require NEET for medical admissions, and the United States is one of them. With a growing number of Indian students opting to study MBBS abroad, the US remains a top choice. American medical schools do not mandate NEET scores for admission, though students must clear local entrance tests to qualify.

How Long Does It Take To Become A Doctor In US?

In the US, students must complete a four-year undergraduate degree before applying to medical school. Admission is based on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) score. Instead of an MBBS degree, students earn a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, which takes around 4 to 4.5 years to complete. Overall, becoming a doctor in the US typically takes 7 to 8 years.

No Files, Documents To Be Moved Out Of Secretariat: Delhi Lt Governor

With Assembly poll results pointing at a regime change in the capital, the general administration department of Delhi government on Saturday said in an order that no files, documents or computers will be moved out of Delhi Secretariat without its prior permission to ensure the safety of records.

On the instruction of Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, the general administration department (GAD) has issued an order directing all the departments, agencies, and camp offices of the council of ministers not to remove any records or files without the prior permission from the department.

As per the latest trends, the BJP is all set to stage a comeback in Delhi after more than 26 years, sweeping the AAP away from the national capital in another big win to extend its saffron footprint in the country.

The GAD order issued to various department heads and in-charges said that no files, documents, computer hardware etc. can be taken outside the Delhi Secretariat complex without its prior permission.

"It is therefore directed that necessary instructions may be issued to the branch in-charges under the departments and offices situated in Delhi Secretariat to ensure the safety of records, files, documents, electronic files etc. under their sections and branches," the order said.

The Secretariat is functioning in a normal manner as before, and it is being ensured that no official papers, files, records, data, laptops and computes, among other such items, are removed by anyone from any of the offices in the complex, a statement from the directorate of information and publicity said.

Explained: BJP's Delhi Election Performance In Numbers

The BJP victory in the Delhi Assembly Election 2025 might have taken almost three decades to come, but its scale and reach have turned ideas about the party's acceptability among several caste and religious groups on its head. Delhi being an India in microcosm, the results also bring hope to many for the party's chances among these groups in their home states.

The BJP's acceptability among the Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Castes have been questioned resolutely by the Congress, which backed it up with its demand for caste census. The BJP, in the past, has gone a long way to win back the OBCs, especially in Maharashtra and a few other states.

Delhi results show that of the BJP's 22 OBC candidates, 16 have won. The party has also won all seven seats that have more than 10 per cent OBC population.

Candidates from Haryana and Purvanchal also appeared to have wide acceptance. Of the 14 Haryanvi candidates, 12 won and of the six Purvanchali candidates, four won.

Of the 13 seats with more than 5 per cent Haryanvi voters, the BJP won 12. Moreover, of the 35 seats with more than 15 per cent Purvanchali voters, the BJP won 25 seats, prompting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to thank the Purvanchali voters "as an MP from Purvanchal".

The party, which lost the last assembly election in Punjab, also won three of the four seats that have more than 10 per cent Sikh voters. Of the 28 seats with more than 10 per cent Punjabi voters, the BJP won 23.

Its strike rate on seats with a chunk of Valmiki and Jatav voters, however, left room for improvement. Of the nine seats with more than 10 per cent Valmiki voters, the BJP won four and of the 12 seats with more than 10 per cent Jatav voters, the party won six.

Of the 12 Scheduled Caste BJP candidates, four have won.

The BJP has also made huge inroads in the seats that border the two neighbouring states it rules -- Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Out of a total of 22 seats that share borders with the neighbouring states, BJP won 15 -  seven of 13 seats that border UP  and nine of 11 seats that border Haryana.

The election in Delhi, though, has been unmarked by rhetoric on caste. The national capital draws people from all states, castes and economic strata who come in search for a better future - a factor that can override their other identities.

The BJP's huge victory is thus seen as a sign of widespread acceptance and a reflection of Delhi's desire for better governance as much as its disenchantment with AAP.

In his victory speech to party workers today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the results in Delhi is a victory of "development, vision and trust (Vikas, Vision Vishwas)".

"Delhi has given us love and I want to assure them that your love will get returned in the form of development. Their love, trust on us is a responsibility which Delhi's double engine government will fulfill," he added.
